In my humble (and forced upon you) opinion, the Fall Fashion Shows are the best shows.
Each season is a frenzy. A mad dash to the tents. A hustle to one of the many outsourced venues that you have to either cab it, train it, or painfully 5” heel it to!
And as wonderful as NYC Fashion Week is for the Fall Season…February is NOT!
The old saying is beauty is pain; but must is hurt this much? Or was it beauty knows no pain? Aw yes, “pain in the name of fashion”! I say it’s more painful to be caught dead in skin tone hosiery simple because when February hits, we now remember just how cold NYC winter is!
Your fabu boot is now your protection from the elements. My boot of choice is a Vivienne Westwood cocoa colored bootie…which of course does not solve the problem of exposed skin in 10 degree weather…but I guess I’ve always made things more difficult than they need to be. Oh but its fashion dawlin’!
I love fashion. I get it. I understand the business of it.
Fall Fashion Week is great. The designer has something to say. There is a clear and concise point of view. Creativity is at its best. I’m inspired.
But in a perfect world, for me that is, I’d love for fall shows to be shown in September and spring in February. But I think a lot of insiders would rather kill or be killed for the sake of a delivery! So you see what is forecasted for next fall when the stores are filled with pretty strappy spring sandals…and by September, your favorite fashion magazines have doubled in size. The pages are dancing with images and critic of all the new goodies that you can fit on two arms, two legs and one body at one time!
I do not disagree that spring fashion is quite beautiful, ethereal even, but its a bit simpler in comparison to fall. And from a consumer stand point, when shopping spring/summer…you buy a great dress, a great sandal, swimsuit, bag, maybe a linen pant, easy jean and your done…correction…sunglasses and your done.
Americans are insatiable…give it to me now and I want it all. And in the age of mass market, Spring/Summer is a lot easier to knock off and therefore the consumer can have it all. The high fashion designer probably serves the mega store with a lower price point better than they serve themselves.
But Fall, Fabulous Fall, with the intricate detailing and heavier costlier fabrics, furs, and leathers…will no doubt have the Designers standing apart from the knock offs.
Cost to produce now comes into play. And we now come back to the business of fashion. Or the business of High Fashion that is.
In a month’s time, expect a full report on a daily basis. I will be armed, pen in hand and camera on wrist, ready to snap the best boot, bag, hat, pant, jacket, skirt, party dress, and *ahem* fur from my seat in row x, y, or z!
I vow to keep my readers abreast of what they think you should be wearing in Fall 2008.
I will make that mad dash to the tents to report to you what’s most important to women (and a growing number of men)…FASHION.

Opening: Cleopatra Jones (the baddest chick) enters the New Year’s party to ring in 1973 with her fabulous partner in crime Atomic Cat. A mysterious dark and handsome man approaches and attempts to seduce Cleo and Cat with champagne and seductive conversation. Cleo, who is always on the case is not falling for it, but is intrigued by this man's cunning desire for the ladies to quicken him once more.
